After blowing our minds with ‘Thank u, next.’ and its nostalg video clip, and teasing us crazy with hints about a new track, Ariana Grande’s ‘Imagine’ has arrived. And it’s really something. A dreamy fantasy about a trouble-free romance that sees no end, an ultimate mood, the song is a sad girl ballad.
While Ari doesn’t name anyone in particular in the track, there are hints that this one goes out to Mac. Twitter has been quick to point out his ‘imagine’ tattoo, while more conscientious fans have found a link in that pad thai shoutout:

Ari described the song as being about “a simple, beautiful love that is now (and forever) unattainable.”
“A lot of this album mourns failed yet important, beautiful relationships in my life (as well as celebrates growth/exploring new independence),” she shared on her instagram story. “But for those of you asking about ‘Imagine’: I would say if ‘Thank U, Next’ = acceptance… ‘Imagine’ = denial.
