A Shaded View
Visors are back for summer. Believe it.
The last time I wore a visor was at a house party when I was 15, let's just say it wasn't one of fashion's 'winning' moments. Then again, if I recall correctly, it was teamed with wide-leg jeans (recently rekindled by a runway revival), a fluoro pink tee (I'm sure I don't need to tell you how hot fluoro is right now) and a pair of Royal Elastics (are these due for a comeback?). Anyway, it looks like we'll be dusting off our archive of wardrobe regrets come the sunnier season, as visors have resurfaced at both Balenciaga and Givenchy for Resort 2012.
The rebirth of this headwear classic isn't the only thing to get excited about this summer, a lot is going on in the realms of topographic accessories at the moment, in particular, some rather spectacular ornamental developments in hair jewellery.
Courtney Love has been a dedicated tiara fan since way back when, and she has been a bit of a front row fixture of late, so one wonders if she might have provided some inspiration for designers currently interpreting this trend?
Leafy jewel-encrusted crowns stole the show at Valentino couture earlier this month, a concept that was also masterfully excecuted by Maison Michel for Spring '11 (with a helping hand from Lou Doillon and Bambi Northwood-Blyth). We can also finally get our paws on Michael Kors' versatile Fall '11 jewellery range, worn here as a ponytail cuff by Codie Young.
So it looks like we've got bejeweled fingernails and bejeweled ponytails, what else is left to bedazzle... human remains? Wait, looks like artist Columbine Pheonix has already got that covered. Excellent.
