American Apparel's 62-Year-Old Model on Ageism

"I was game the whole timeā€¦ Legs in the air? Great, let's go."

When we posted about Jacky O'Shaughnessy, American Apparel's 62-year-old exceedingly attractive model last week, we were met with much positive reinforcement. Whether you think American Apparel are gutsy legends or overzealous stunt-hunting shock jocks with such marketing tactics as this, and this it's likely you thought Jacky, along with AA's tagline "Sexy has no expiration date" were fair assertions. Fair, or fairly excellent even. In alignment with the philosophy of being eternally seductive, Jacky herself has called bullshit on ageism. In a recent Elle interview, she's adamant that age and one's capacity to be sexy needn't intersect.

"I was game the whole time. I'm comfortable. I don't feel that any of this is inappropriate. When people talk about age appropriate hairstyles, and age appropriate dressing, well, whose age? And who are you? When I was handed the lace underwear, it was like, yeah, sure, let me have it. Want me to sit on this stool? Fine. Legs in the air? Great, let's go."

Such healthy feelings of self really can't be argued with, can they? Lol, of course they can. This is the internet, a place incomplete and alien in the absence of those on their scathing digital soapboxes. Jacky is very much aware of how this internet works; saying of the haters, "I think blogging is a format for a lot of people who just love to get on and just rip things apart. When I look at the most critical, it's very young women, not guys, yet very young women are also some of the biggest proponents. The amount of negativity is so small compared to the positive reactions." #jacky4president
