Big in Japan
Ksubi are bringing the best of Japan's avant-garde to Australia.
Ksubi have proved that they have mad skills when it comes to blending the boundaries between art and fashion. Not only are they one of Australia's leading clothing brands, they're also making inroads in the realms of art and cultural exchange by curating their annual avant-garde exhibition of all things artsy and Japanese, Big in Japan.
Established by Ksubi and Kirin Beer in 2009, the program celebrates its third year showcasing some of the most unique and experimental art to come out of all corners of Japan. Come November, Sydney's Paddington Town Hall and Melbourne's Thousand Pound Bend will be transformed from blank canvases to multi-discplinary art-scapes. If you're wondering what to expect, think performances, videos, music, noise and installations - an eclectic selection of contemporary and conceptual Japanese expressionism. And the best news? This year the exhibition will be open to the public.
The program will feature singer Fuyuki Yamakawa, dancer Yuko Kaseki, girl band Kiiiii, sound artist OVe-NaXx, and Onnacodomo. We aren't 100% sure on what they do, but you can always watch the explanatory video 'About Onnacodomo' below. If you're a Sydneysider, Big in Japan will be open on November 15 and 16. For those in Melbourne, expect to see the exhibition November 18 and 19.
