British Fashion Awards 2012 Highlights

Stella McCartney, Alexa Chung (again!), Cara Delevingne and more.
Model of the Year @caradelevingne

The British Fashion Awards are a pretty big deal. Held annually, the award ceremony recognises the creativity, talent and general life skills of the industry’s innovators. This year, 14 awards were presented to the best in the business. Here is a rundown of our highlights:

Alexa Chung — British Style
Is it any surprise that Alexa Chung won this award for the third year running? No, no it is not. Just look at her. JUST LOOK.

Cara Delevingne — Model
Why yes this is the Model of the Year wearing a hot dog costume (something only a Model of the Year could get away with). Last year Stella Tennant took out the title.

Stella McCartney — Designer Brand AND Designer of the Year
Fashion's ethical overachiever Stella McCartney won the two most esteemed titles, filling the shoes of Sarah Burton (who last year won the Designer of the Year) and Posh Spice/Victoria Beckham (who held the title of Designer Brand).

Manolo Blahnik — Outstanding Achievement in Fashion
The footwear label synonymous with Carrie Bradshaw won this year's Outstanding Achievement in Fashion accolade. Last year Paul Smith (whose studio we recently visited) won. PS, the video below accurately depicts what Oyster's fashion closet is like.

Nicholas Kirkwood — Accessory Designer
Known for shoes that defy gravity and common sense, Nicholas Kirkwood rightfully won Accessory Designer award. See his SS13 collaboration with Meadham Kirchhoff (above) for proof of his mad skills. Charlotte Olympia was last year's winner.

J.W. Anderson — Emerging Talent Award (RTW)
Making his debut at LFW in 2007, J.W. Anderson has since been picked up by Net-A-Porter and collaborated with Topshop. Aged under 30, it makes total sense that this young star won the Emerging Talent award. Mary Katrantzou (also a Topshop collaborator) was 2011's winner.

Sophie Hulme — Emerging Talent Award (Accessories)
Following in a similar understated aesthetic of Céline and The Row, Sophie Hulme makes leather bags which may make you have inappropriate thoughts about abandoning all emotions for a life of materialism. Last year Tabitha Simmons won this award.

Jonathan Saunders — Emerging Talent Award (Menswear)
Michelle Obama has worn his designs. Your argument is invalid. This year the Scottish-born designer was recognised for his menswear fashion skills, though, filling the place of Christopher Raeburn who won last year.

Kim Jones for Louis Vuitton — Menswear Designer
Holding post at Louis Vuitton as the label's menswear RTW Style Director since 2011, this is the fourth time Kim Jones has won the Menswear Designer award (including last year's title). Big ups!
