Dion Lee Resort 2013 Lookbook
A collection that more than makes up for his absence at Fashion Week this year.
It was a massive bummer when Dion Lee didn't show at Fashion Week earlier this year, but upon seeing his new collection we can understand why he chose to forgo a runway presentation to focus on Resort.
Resort sees a continuation of his signature sporty aesthetic. Neoprene is key — this wetsuit material is thickly woven to appear like a chunky knit, or bonded to lycra to form structured dresses and blazers with laser-cut detailing. There's also mesh detailing (this carries through to his Line II range as well) and great sporty separates like an oversized windbreaker done in silk rather than classic nylon, which reminded us of a luxe lad.
Dion has become known as something of an optical illusionist, where nothing is quite as it first appears. His clever visual play is present here in the futuristic prints. In some instances, these prints are made 3D at the hem — the material of the dress or skirt is actually cut out to bring the print to life. Another clever element of the collection is the reflective knitwear, which looks like a muted metallic colour but explodes with luminosity under bright light. In a word? Exciting.
UPDATE: Turns out budding shoe designer Kanye West designed the footwear for this collection!
