Exclusive: Behind-The-Scenes on Dion Lee's Woolmark Film

Feautring Louise van de Vorst and Madison Borbely.

Congratulations Dion Lee! In what is a further testament to his superior skills at fashion/life, he was announced as the Australian winner of the International Woolmark Prize last night.

As part of the award submission, each nominee had to make a film. Dion enlisted the help of director Kasia Werstak as well as models Louise van de Vorst and Madison Borbely for his offering (see below). We went exclusively behind-the-scenes on the video set (see the gallery above).

Dion was up against other talented Australian designers — Ellery, Christopher Esber, Magdalena Velevska, Carl Kapp and Song For The Mute — but was selected winner by a board comprising Edwina McCann (Editor-In-Chief at Vogue Australia), Richard Nicoll (fellow designer), Simon Lock (founder of Australian Fashion Week), David Bush (David Jones Womenswear Buyer), and Malcolm Carfrae (Global Vice President of Communications for Calvin Klein).

Dion will receive some serious dollar ($50,000, the Sydney Morning Herald reports) and will also go to London Fashion Week next year with Woolmark finalists from USA, Europe, China and India. Each finalist will create a capsule collection using Merino wool and one will take out the final International Woolmark Prize — $100,000, and their designs stocked at Bergdorf Goodman in the USA, Harvey Nichols in the UK, 10 Corso Como in Italy, Joyce in China, Eickoff in Germany and David Jones in Australia. Not too shabby.

And if you're reading all of this thinking 'cut me off a slice off that' or some such, be sure to check out Dion's Sydney warehouse sale starting this Friday.
