Exclusive DJ Sveta Booty-bounce Mix
Y'all get back now, it's booty bounce time!
"Hold up, hold up, y'all got to stop all this foolishness!" What foolishness say you? Any plans that have you anywhere BUT GoodGod Small Club on Thursday 8 December. Why?
Reason one: Big Freedia, a cross-dressing, gender-bending rapper. She shakes a mean booty:
Reason two: The party is called 'Booty Booty Booty (ChristmASS Everywhere)'.
Reason three: Everyone needs to bounce their booty more often. DJ Sveta, who is also playing, made Oyster this mini-mix for just such a purpose (click on the arrow to download).
Big Freedia (say it with me now, 'Freeeeeee-da'), the 'Queen Diva' of Bounce music, hails from New Orleans and is known for songs with names like 'Azz Everywhere' and 'Gin in my System'. Bounce music, with its booming dance rhythms and call-and-response lyrics, has been pumping out of New Orleans clubs since the nineties, but is only recently escaping its hometown. So why is bounce music any different to hip-hop? Let me put it this way: If your average style of hip-hop is as sexy as Anna Paquin in her X-Men days, then bounce music is Sookie Stackhouse; the raunch factor has been turned up to 11.
Reason four: Joining Big Freedia from the USA will be Juiceboxxx, a young white rapper from Milwaukee. Lauded as "the Buddy Holly of hip-hop" by Chuck D., he'll be getting into the Christmas spirit with his own particular brand of "sweat-inducing anarchic indie-dance-rap". He also wears t-shirts with Alf on them:
Reason five: Gods of r'n'b the Love Kings will be there - they did a mix for us a few weeks ago.
Tickets are available through Moshtix, but you will also be able to see Big Freedia and Juiceboxxx at Meredith Music Festival, and in Melbourne at the Toff in Town.
