Fashion Films Find A Home

This year's L'Oreal Melbourne Fashion Festival 8 two pseudo film festivals.

Ever since Hubert de Givenchy and Audrey Hepburn teamed up for the 1954 production of Sabrina, fashion and film have been, as they used to say back then, 'going steady'. And it's a love affair that shows no sign of waning. Case in point is the L'Oreal Melbourne Fashion Festival Cultural Program, which 8 not one but two pseudo film festivals. As part of No Home designers like Alexi Freeman, Arabella Ramsey, Beat Poet, Carly Hunter, Limedrop, Orri Henrisson, SOSUME, The Twelfth Letter and Upper Left Arm will be premiering moving images made analogous to threads. These local names will be joined by special international submissions by ACNE (Concrete Island by Daniel Askill) and Athena (The Island by Scott Altman, featuring music by The Velvet Underground).

Then there's FASHIonFILM. As well as showcasing over 20 fashion shorts, the FASHIonFILM folk have secured the rights to premiere Corinne Day Diary, a 50-minute documentary directed by Mark Szaszy, the boyfriend of the late photographer. Shot over a period of ten years, it chronologically unspools the life of a British icon famous for her work with a young Kate Moss (Moss makes an appearance in old super 8 footage as a 15 year old). Corinne Day Diary will feature alongside a ManiaMania clip by photographer Barnaby Roper (featuring Abby Lee), a vision of LA by Aaron Rose and an interview with fashion blogger Diane Pernet and stylist Catherine Baba.

No Home will premiere at the Australian Centre for Moving Image on Monday March 7 at 6.30pm. Tickets will set you back$28 for adults and $23 for concessions. FASHIonFILM will take place on Thursday March 10 from 8.30pm at Rooftop Cinema, Melbourne. Tickets are $20 for adults and $16 for concessions.
