happy snaps: ransom x adidas originals

The Never Ending Path ? a new direction for footwear.

It was the rugged beauty of Canada which was the inspiration for adidas Originals by RANSOM's unique new collection of kicks. Canadian surf and skate photographer, Scott Serfas, was the man behind the lens, and is responsible for capturing the range of bold footwear amid the breathtakingly untamed landscapes of the Canadian wilderness.

Ransom Holding Co. is the Canadian-based retailer known for their unique perspective on apparel and accessories. This season, they returned to their roots to find inspiration for their new collaboration with adidas, titled The Never Ending Path. As functional as they are stylish, adidas Originals by RANSOM are suitable for the wild landscape encountered by any true adventurer. With boots and shoes crafted from waterproof leather and suede, as well as heavy cordura and nubuck, they are designed to withstand the elements. The attention to detail and playful design featured throughout the collection, though, also make these kicks perfect for your festival weekend, house party or the grueling terrain of your average city street.

With three new silhouettes this season, the collection's highlight pieces feature striking wilderness scenes translated directly onto fabric. The Crest is a personal favourite, sporting a unique glacier print. The collection also sees a return to many old favourites though, like The High Top Valley. In some cases, classics have been reworked to incorporate quirky new touches, like The Creek's moccasin toe on a classic mid-cut kick. It is this fresh take on footwear that keeps us on our toes as we pour over the collection.

To kick off The Never Ending Path collection, adidas and RANSOM held an appropriately-themed lumberjack launch party at Rokeby Studios in Melbourne's Collingwood last Thursday night. Decked out with snowy forest-themed decor, the party transported guests straight to the Canadian wilderness. DJs Roman Wafers (Bamboo Musik), Woody McDonald and Simon Winkler (3RRR) had the crowd up and dancing (slash navigating the shoes that were decorating their decks!). Arcade games were also on the agenda, while photographer Mia Mala McDonald shot some amazing portraits in the corner against a forest backdrop. A lucky few were treated to a delicious pre-party dinner at Cavallero, in Collingwood and we will never look at pig's ears in the same way. I wonder if they will deliver to Surry Hills...

The Never Ending Path drops in stores this month, with the full collection to be released in October.
