Hermès Collaborates with Japanese Polaroid Artist Hiroshi Sugimoto

On a series of scarves.

Hermès has collaborated with Japanese artist Hiroshi Sugimoto. The collaboration forms the third edition in Hermès' 'Editeur' series, in which the label (who has the best apartment in the world) teams up with an artist to produce a one-off collection of textiles. Inspired by Hiroshi's decade-long 'Colours of Shadow' project, Hermès have released a limited line of 140 silk scarves (available in 20 different designs) that depict Hiroshi's Polaroid experiments with natural light and colour gradations.

For his 'Colours of Shadow' project, Hiroshi was inspired by Buddhist doctrines, the scientific colour experiments first developed by Isaac Newton, and studies on the psychological response to colour. The resulting 55 x 55 inch silk prints showed as part of the Art Basel and were available for purchase (for a cool $10,000).
