Iggy Pop Fronts Fragrance Campaign
For Paco Rabanne's Black XS L'Exces.
We're used to seeing 'ethereal' fragrance campaigns with 'ethereal' models, who have 'ethereal' hair and 'ethereal' everything else. That's why it comes as such a surprise to learn that 64-year-old grandfather of punk, Iggy Pop - known for self-harming, rolling around in glass, spewing and getting his dick out on stage - is the face of Paco Rabanne's forthcoming fragrance, Black XS L'Exces. Meaning 'excess' in French, that bit kind of makes sense considering that The Stooges frontman is basically a walking advertisement for a nihilistic lifestyle. At first it seems like Pop is selling his soul for advertising as opposed to rock and roll, but it's a pretty punx choice of Paco Rabanne to use an ex-heroin addict who has spent time in a mental institution in place of some nameless beautiful model, right? And. Sequins.
The Black XS L'Exces fragrance will be available in a mens and womens version, and will include a TV campaign directed by BFF to the baby boomers, Jonas Akerland (who's also making the Duran Duran 90's supermodel video). The world also better brace itself for a billboard-sized Iggy Pop because that's about to happen too.
In 2009, Pop was also the face of a campaign for insurance company Swiftcover, even though the ads were later banned because their policy did not cover musicians. Just a small oversight. Check it out below:
