Instagram's New Incarnation: Instacube

A living canvas for your Instagram photos.

Loved by models, designers and just about everyone else, Instagram is about to see a new incarnation. Instacube is a self-contained device that displays your Instagram photos at 3x their smartphone screen size. Unlike the digital photo frame that you bought your mum for her birthday last year (and she still doesn't know how to use), Instacube acts as a 'living canvas'. By connecting to your Wi-Fi and Instagram account, it displays images as they are uploaded, showing a selection of your own photos, photos from people you follow, or popular photos, depending on what choose. It has all the functions of the app — even a 'like' button which is shaped like a heart.

So forego your picture frames — this is 2012. Instacube isn't in production yet, but it launched yesterday on Kickstarter, where the inventors are chasing $250K to get it onto the market. The current pledge sits at $82,162, and with 30 days to go expect Instacube to come to a bedside table near you soon (imagine if the real life Instagram camera becomes a reality, too... You could use it while wearing your Instagram sunglasses... And simultaneously updating your Pinstagram). Best to start preparing now to say cheese and die.
