Interview: Nancy Whang (LCD Soundsystem & The Juan Maclean)

We catch up with her before she headlines Vanilla Nites this Saturday in Sydney.

Vanilla Nites is a new party starting at The Oxford Hotel in Darlinghurst. It debuts this Saturday with a very special international guest — none other than Nancy Whang from LCD Soundsystem and The Juan Maclean. It was a secret up until yesterday but now the cat's out of the bag. Nancy, who has worked with Soulwax, been named 'Nightlifes Best DJ' in New York City and played a sold-out show at Madison Square Garden, will headline the night and will be supported by a bunch of local DJs (including our very own Deputy Editor Ariane). Julian Rifkin: Hi Nancy. What are you most looking forward to when you come to Australia? I read somewhere that you like Vegemite...
Nancy Whang: I think I'm probably most looking forward to the summer weather. When I left NYC it was 23 degrees fahrenheit! That's some degrees below zero to the rest of the world. And yes, I do love Vegemite. I always keep a tube of it in the refrigerator.
 
We're only just getting over a pretty hectic heatwave here. How are you preparing for your visit?
I'm bringing a really big hat.
 
Your spot at Vanilla Nites was a secret until now. Can you tell us any other secrets about Nancy Whang?
I'm ambidextrous, which actually just makes me really clumsy and not able to tell right from left.

Nostalgic New York.
 
What have you got in store for the world in 2013?
Some new music with some old friends (Juan Maclean, Shit Robot, Classixx) and some old music with some new friends (covers of Casablanca Records songs for Gomma).
