Kate Bush Gives First Interview In Five Years, Is Terrified Of Performing
Human after all.
Perfect human Kate Bush famously declined interviews surrounding her 2014 shows, which were her first since 1979. And she hadn't been interviewed since the release of her 2011 record 50 Words for Snow. Ahead of her hour-long special Kate Bush on 6 Music, BBC has published some of the interview transcript which details the babe's total fear of performing live. Human after all.
Kate says that she was "nervous every night" before each of the 22 performaces at Hammersmith's Apollo in 2014, and that her biggest fear was losing her place mid-song.
"I naturally tend to race ahead in my mind," She says. "I'm always thinking about situations and running them through. I think, maybe it's that kind of primeval thing where you're trying to think, 'Can I get to that tree before the tiger gets me?'
"I was so terrified that if my mind wandered off that when I came back I wouldn't remember where I was." Baby!
Kate also chats about the live album she's putting together, which will be released November 25. But, when asked about another studio album, she says, "Oh no, I don't think so. I think it's just a rather big comma." :'(
Kate Bush on 6 Music will be broadcast at 13:00 GMT on Sunday, November 20. Read the transcript here.
