LFW FW13 Backstage: Antipodium
Big Brother is watching!
Following a thumbs-up Resort collection inspired by emojis, Antipodium's tendency for technology continues into FW13. This season Creative Director Geoffrey J. Finch was interested in exploring surveillance in the digital world, whether we're willingly recording our lives on Tumblr or being unbeknowingly surveyed on the streets. But fashion-wise, FW13 was inspired less by George Orwell's 1984 and more by Sharon Stone in Sliver and Basic Instinct.
Oversized outerwear was purposefully at odds with an abundance of high-shine patent leather and eye-catching metallics. This may have been Geoffrey's way of materalising the public versus private thought behind the collection, and the blurring of what is personal and what is published in the digital age.
Reading like a sensationalist headline from a tabloid magazine, the collection is called 'Sex, Lies & CCTV' and also features two bespoke prints created in collaboration with Karl Maier. The 'Candid Camera' print features CCTV cameras, while 'Double Take' interprets a security guard's video wall.
