Listen: Bret Easton Ellis x Marilyn Manson Podcast
They talk film and TV. They are well-versed in both. Also funny.
Following on from a pretty bewitching back-and-forth with relentless opinion-giver Mister Kanye West, author Bret Easton Ellis has now sat down with oft-misunderstood prodigy Marilyn Manson. While Manson was a primo source of stimuli for 90s teenage goths, here and now in the year 2013 he and Bret traverse relevant topics such as the divisive film of the year, Spring Breakers, The Hunger Games franchise, and other matters of contemporary film and TV.
Because it's quite long, here's a 'teaser', for lack of a better word. At one point Bret says, "I have to give props to a movie where James Franco gives a fairly realistic looking blow job to a pistol."
At another, Marilyn admits to crying in The Notebook. And elsewhere, he admits his girlfriend of the time, Rose McGowan, was mortified that he enjoyed certain parts in the filmic adaptation of Bret's prolific novel American Psycho.
Get an earful of the v articulate cultural commentary right here if you've an hour to spare, complete with Marilyn's many tangents and use of the words 'denigrate' and 'besmirch' in a two-second space. His voice is also achingly smooth.
