London Fashion Week Interview: Jonathan Saunders

Zac Bayly attempts to troll Serious Fashion Journalists backstage at LFW.
Jourdan Dunn

Jonathan Saunders' London Fashion Week show was awesome (my favourite of the week, so far) and so is he. Don't believe me? Look at these pictures. Need convincing? Read the following interview, in which I battle it out backstage with two (serious fashion) journalists for exclusive quotes. They tried to get the best quotes about the collection in the shortest amount of time; I attempted to leave them with the most unusable ones. Fash-On, mo-fuckers! This is my town!

Serious Fashion Journalist #1: What was the concept for the collection?
Jonathan Saunders: I was going for a more sexy attitude. For me personally, I wanted to make more tactile designs — there were laminated fabrics and textured foils. I was trying to enhance the texture of the clothes. [Jonathan Saunders says something in his Scottish accent that I can't hear well enough to transcribe accurately] That's kind of where it came from. And I've always wanted to show here, at the Tate Modern; that's been a dream of mine for a while. So, every time I imagined this show, I was thinking of all those references that I'd always loved.

Serious Fashion Journalist #2: The collection felt very 60s/70s to me. What were the references?
Disco! The seventies! Exactly... I was looking at that period.

Zac Bayly: If this collection had a star sign, what would it be?
Scorpio, obviously.

Why?
Because I am, firstly, and, also, the collection was about sex.

Can I ask one more question?
Sure.

If this collection were a woman in a film—
Michelle Pfeiffer in Scarface.

—to be played by a man, which actor would you pick?
Erm... Geez... [He laughs] I have no idea.
