Louis Vuitton Sydney Maison Opens Today
A three-story fashion universe!
We just returned from the new Louis Vuitton store opening on George Street, and it did not disappoint. Cate Blanchett was there to cut the ribbon in all her resplendent paleness, as were the important CEOs in their smart suits. The store is three stories high and equipped with a travel section, a men's 'universe', a women's 'universe', a made-to-measure shoe service and a made-to-order bag service.
Despite the shakiness of the current global economic climate Louis Vuitton's Global Chairman and CEO insists the luxury giant is going from strength to strength, particularly in the South-East Asia region. If the sandwiches that were served are anything go by, then things are certainly coming up trumps (truffle and chicken sandwiches, people!).
Also of note is the artist collaboration with Billie Achilleos, who cleverly constructed animals from Louis Vuitton leathergoods. The Australian contingency was represented by a kangaroo, crocodile and koala. My personal favourites, however, were the beaver (which I initially thought was a wombat - very unpatriotic of me) and the deer, under which sits a sign saying, "Oh Deer!" At Oyster we love a pun, not to mention a luxury brand with a sense of humour.
