Louis Vuitton's Sydney Maison
Retail at its most luxurious.
Louis Vuitton is opening a 'Maison' in Sydney next week - one of 13 in the world. There are 460 Louis Vuitton stores across the globe, but Maisons are a rare ilk - probably because they're big (the average footprint for one of these things is 2000 square meters) and super luxurious (the Maison in Singapore, for example, sits on a purpose-built man-made island). As David McNulty, Louis Vuitton's director of architecture, told The Australian Financial Review today, "fashion houses are becoming architectural theatre in the way opera houses were and cathedrals used to be. For us, there is always a question of visibility. We cannot be tucked away. We must be seen."
Located in the heart of the CBD on George Street, you can rest assured that you won't miss it. Not that you'd want to. It may not come with its own island, but it does come with sleek interiors in Louis Vuitton's signature checkerboard colours - caramel and toffee. There will be cute, distinctly 'Australian' details, too - eucalyptus motifs in wood marquetry and LV monogrammed surfboards.

The Maison will also boast two personalisation services. The 'Made-to-Order Shoes' service will allow male clients to choose from a number of leathers and colour combinations to create the perfect pair of shoes. Women will be able to commission a unique handbag made from Louis Vuitton's finest leathers.
Louis Vuitton Maison Sydney will open its doors to the public on December 3.
