Miu Miu goes Noir

Sunglasses to, er, die for.

The Hollywood Hills were transformed on Tuesday night to provide the perfect location for the premier screening of Miu Miu's latest short film, Muta. The second installment in the "Miu Miu Women's Tales Saga" exploring the "feminine love affair with Miu Miu", the film coincides with the launch of the brand's latest line of forties-inspired Noir Sunglasses, set to hit stores later this year. Directed by award-winning Argentinian director Lucrecia Martel, the film abounds in cat's-eye angles, false lashes and long-limbed models exploring a spooky, abandoned ocean liner. The combined effect is six minutes of contemporary film noir, with traces of typical Miu Miu elegance.

Take a twenties-era mansion belonging to photographer Michel Comte, add a dash of noir stylistic influence (think period furnishings, taxidermy and vintage cars) and a cocktail bar resembling an ocean liner, and you've got yourself a party. The A-list guests were transported back to the forties by the 'cigarette girls' (although Miu Miu Noir sunglasses replaced cigarettes in their trays) and the lone pool boy, sporting an old-school bathing suit. Guests included Diane Kruger, China Chow, Marylin Manson (!) and, of course, Miu Miu poster-girl Hailee Steinfeld, the 14-going-on-27 starlet from The Coen Brothers' True Grit and the star of the brand's latest ad campaign for the Noir range.
