Mood Boards: Christie Nicole AW14
"A world of her own."
Sydney's own Christie Trowbridge is emerging as the go-to girl for lace and leather. Her label, Christie Nicole, specialises in making beautiful and intricate handmade bras, and her new collection for AW14 is called 'A World of Her Own'. Christie's delicate pieces open up a world of secret luxury, quiet confidence and modern femininity. We asked her a few questions to find out more about her inspiration behind the collection.
Jerico Mandybur: What is this collection about and what are its inspiration?
Christie Trowbridge: It's about all the feelings and emotions that one could be hiding. The inspiration being one's self. With the look book expressing the way someone can let loose, being free, off in a world of their own. A big inspiration is also Fete Champetre, I love their images.
I am all about luxe fabrics. At the start of the process I picked out all different colours, textures and patterns, put everything together and picked out what I thought fitted best. I then on worked all the fabrics together to tell a story. Main fabrics being leather, silks & lace. I am also always adding new pieces to the collection as they come to mind.
The mood board sums up a few images that caught my eyes when researching inspiration for my look book.
Is there a muse, era or medium that you find yourself frequently channeling?
I draw inspiration anywhere and everywhere. Usual lI lean in a certain direction while not even realising and then I find a theme for the collection that really flows. Every collection I have done has ended up referencing my personal thoughts and feelings at that time in my life. I hope people can then connect and interpret my collections in their own individual way! I get drawn to anything that’s delicate, beautiful and interesting.
