Never Before Seen John Lennon & Yoko Ono Photos
New images from 1969's 'bed-in' for peace, featuring Timothy Leary.
Back in 1969, a young photographer got an extraordinary opportunity. Friends with a journalist who had scheduled an interview with Yoko Ono while she and John Lennon were in Montreal, twenty-year-old Stephen Sammons was invited to photograph the cosmically famous pair. The photos released from the week Lennon and Ono conducted their famous 'bed-in' for world peace at the Queen Elizabeth Hotel in Montreal are now ingrained in our historical and cultural consciousness, as are the images from their bed-in in Amsterdam two months before. However, they don't comprise the full story. Although Sammons sold some of his photos that year to Weekend magazine, many others have never been seen - until now. Time has just released eight new photos of that day on their Lightbox photography blog to coincide with the anniversary of Lennon's death, also featuring Yoko Ono's daughter, Timothy Leary and his wife, and Tommy Smothers.
Also check out the video footage of the recording of Lennon's song, Give Peace A Chance, which was shot that day and which everyone in the room, including Sammons, sang in.
