New Biergarten at The Standard
Oktoberfest all year round in downtown LA.
The Standard Downtown LA, one of the West Coast counterparst to The Standard New York, has opened a Biergarten on its rooftop this month just in time for Oktoberfest and its merry festivities. The low-key rooftop setting, complete with grassy knoll to perch on (and incredible views) is probably the only place in the city where you can drink a beer and chow down on some real food, without feeling out of place among the super health-conscious locals.
It 8 a classic German menu from acclaimed Austrian chef Kurt Gutenbrunner (Wallse, Cafe Sabarsky, The Standard New York Biergarten) that includes (very) inventive sausage and salad options such as currywurst, spicy pork bratwurst with white radish salad, Bavarian weisswurst made with white veal and pork, cucumber and potato salad and sauerkraut with riesling. If none of the more adventurous options tickle your fancy, you could always go for the giant pretzel or gingerbread cookie to accompany your beer-drinking session. So grab your lederhosen or dirndl, make your way through the LA gridlock, and get yourself to the Standard for some foosball, food and hanging out with famous people (well, maybe).
