for_the_love.jpgDamien Hirst sells artwork for US $100 million

Damian Hirst, widely considered to be the wealthiest living artist in Britain, has just sold a piece of artwork for US 100 million dollars. Titled ‘For the Love of God’, the piece is a diamond encrusted, platinum caste human skull.  Featuring over 8000 stones (including a 52 carat pink diamond), the work cost upwards of 30 million US dollars to create. The piece was purchased by an unnamed group, who plan on reselling it within the next few years. Paid for in cash, the skull will be featured in a number of exhibitions worldwide before going to its anonymous owners. Hirst is well known for gory extravagance, he is famed for his grotesque, preserved animal works.
