Donatella tells: models not so super

Donatella, sister to Gianni Versace and creator of the supermodel, recently revealed her take on the problem with the lacklustre model of today. And it's not their questionable age, rail thin frames, or the over-paid gigs.

"There is not enough ego!"

Today, the age of the supermodel seems a distant memory. Designer Donatella tells Love Magazine, "It was a time when designers were afraid of models with fame. They were afraid that the clothes would be overtaken by the fame of the models". And we have to agree; it is hard to remember when such fame was reserved for the model (not to mention the cover).

The past decade has struggled to cultivate a breed of the calibre of Kate, Linda, Naomi, Kristen, and Cindy. This was a time where their beauty was unattainable, yet we knew them all on a first name basis. For now, let's just hope there is a fresh-faced ego waiting in the wings.

Kate Moss for Longchamp.

For fashion's favourite villain, turning 36 isn't the only cause for celebration as the rebellious supermodel is set to collaborate with luxury label Longchamp to design a new line of handbags.

After two decades at the top of the industry, Moss is no stranger to the designer title. Previously appearing in four seasons of Longchamp ads, this time round Moss worked with artistic director Sophie Delafontaine to create the initial line which is certain to be overpriced and an instant success. This follows past collaborative triumphs including the sell out fragrance, Kate, and the in-demand pieces sparked by a collaboration with TopShop in 2007.

The Spring / Summer 2010 line (obviously) titled 'Kate Moss for Longchamp' will be released February 11. Yet this partnership will be no one-off, with Moss set to continue working with the Longchamp house over the coming seasons.

Australia’s Incu has announced details of an exciting collaboration with London’s iconic retail giant Topshop.

Incu’s Paddington store will be the first store in Australia to stock Topshop, a brand internationally renowned for exciting high-fashion collaborations made affordable.

Kate Moss for Topshop will be available, as will Topshop Unique and Topman plus Incu’s usual array of great labels.

To celebrate the collaboration, Incu will be running an amazing competition for customers in its first month after opening, giving them the chance to win a trip to London courtesy of Virgin Atlantic and Visit London.

The store will reopen on the 29th October and details for the competition will be publicized on twitter (twitter.com/INCU_TOPSHOP) and Incu’s website.

Kate Moss a TV star?

Kate Moss could soon be a small-screen star, as a judge on her own talent hunting television show.

Simon Cowell, callous American Idol judge and strength behind hit TV shows such as Britain’s Got Talent and The X Factor, has teamed up with British billionaire retailer Sir Philip Green in a plan to equal the Disney empire.

Moss is reportedly set to play a key role in the £1billion global entertainment and fashion takeover that Cowell, 49, and Green, 57, are launching under the banner Greenwell Entertainment.

At 35, Moss’ catwalk days are soon to expire, and this could be an opportunity to secure her career and earnings.

The supermodel has already worked with Green before, designing a sell-out capsule collection for his fashion chain Topshop.

Lily Allen has Chanel campaign in the bag

Karl Lagerfeld is to turn his lens on Lily Allen in London next week, framing her as the new face for Chanel’s Autumn/Winter 09 accessories collection.

It was rumoured in 2006 that the UK pop star would appear in advertising for the iconic 2.55 quilted bags. Three years later, Lagerfeld has personally selected Allen to front the campaign, telling Women’s Wear Daily, “She’s fun.”

Allen, a huge fan of Chanel, was granted front row status at the Paris Fashion Week show and even partied on afterwards with the likes of Kate Moss and Lagerfeld himself.

Allen is not the first singer to act as a source of inspiration to Lagerfeld. Beth Ditto’s band The Gossip was selected to play at a Fendi party by Lagerfeld’s recommendation this year and in 2007 Lagerfeld revamped heroin chic by adopting Amy Winehouse as muse.

Kate Moss does it again with Topshop

Today Kate Moss’s spring collection for TopShop hits the stands. Her line for TopShop has been hugely successful in the past, and this range is tipped to be no different.

Fortunately for those outside of the UK, it will also be available online, so everyone can get in on the action.
Originally Kate Moss’s TopShop collections were modelled on favourite pieces from her own wardrobe, but now Moss is shifting the focus to clothes she wants to wear, but doesn’t own.
The collection is a girly one, starring camisoles and pretty dresses. Florals, proving to be ‘09s most enduring (and endearing) trend, will also take the forefront. In a rare interview Moss told The (British) Telegraph:
“When I was growing up everything was about Liberty prints for me. I had Liberty-print dresses when I was a child,’ Moss says. 'They remind me of my mum. Like all those gorgeous 1970s shirts with little flower Liberty prints that are so delicate and really English, and so cute.”
Happy to concede she doesn’t draw or sew, Kate Moss works with a large, talented team to produce her collections. She takes a hands-on approach, but it is perhaps the collaborative effort behind each range that has resulted in such enduring success.
Although the full range is unlikely to be available over the web, plenty will be. With prices ranging from $30 AUD up, the collection is also accessible to the budget-conscious. To view the range go to: the Top Shop website
