Opening Ceremony Launches Magazine

"We want to make a magazine that will appeal to kids in Nebraska as much as industry people."
From Opening Ceremony's 'Dime Store Diamonds' accessory shoot.

The Opening Ceremony bros are launching a magazine. OC Annual will debut this August, and each issue will be centered around a theme. The first issue will focus on the Olympic Games, which sounds a little scary, but come on, it’s Opening Ceremony — they can make anything cool. And with contributors like Bruce Weber, Tim Barker, Walter Pfeiffer and Todd Cole already on board, how could it be anything but cool?

While Opening Ceremony founders Carol Lim and Humberto Leon have not yet spoken to the media about the magazine, WWD got hold of an internal memo about the publication. "As magazine fanatics, OC founder Humberto Leon and myself are aiming to create a collectible publication for a new generation, something beautiful and special in the vein of Benetton’s Colors, Comme des Garçons’ Six and Joe McKenna’s Joe. We want to make a magazine that will appeal to kids in Nebraska as much as industry people," it reads.

Carol and Humberto also have another print project on the go (in addition to being Kenzo's Creative Directors and doing a million other things on the side). Later this year, they’ll be releasing a book to mark Opening Ceremony’s 10th anniversary, which will feature Terry Richardson, Chloë Sevigny, Alexander Wang, Ryan McGinley, Sally Singer, M.I.A. and Terence Koh.

Seeing as everything they do is pretty fantastic, we are expecting their foray into print to also be pretty fantastic. Fantastic things include but are not limited to: their collaboration with Rodarte, sweet lookbooks and accessory shoots, in-house editorials, and interesting videos.
