Oyster Archive: Julia Nobis x Rene Vaile for #88
We look back at Oyster over the years in the lead-up to our 100th issue — out this Friday!
Our EPIC 100th issue hits stands this Friday, so we decided to look back at highlights from our past — such as issue #88 which took Julia Nobis as its cover star.
During the FW12 season in February/March this year, Julia clocked up a total of 73 shows — making her (for the second consecutive season) the model to have walked the most shows on the international circuit. She opened Dior's couture show earlier this month, and is ranked #38 on the models.com Top 50. Pretty good for a girl who was discovered, then 15, as an awkward teenager at Bondi Junction in her school uniform.
When we shot her back in 2010, we knew that she wouldn't be sticking around for long, so went over to her place and shot her there. Rene Vaile photographed her hanging out in her signed Rose Bay Secondary College polo, playing guitar, and snacking on post-school, pre-dinner sandwiches. It's a sweet and intimate look at one of the biggest models to have come out of our country.
