Oyster Fashion: 'Safe Word' by Saty + Pratha
The jumping point for this shoot came from Buñuel's film Belle de Jour about an affluent surgeon's wife who moonlights at a brothel. We were interested in exploring a character who willingly gives up control in the search to satisfy a desire, and we liked the idea of something unsettling and uncertain lurking amidst a beautiful and wholesome appearance. Visually, we wanted to incorporate Klimt's 'The Kiss,' with colours and patterns that are currently reflected on the runway. The painting depicts a lovers' warm embrace, which, again, can be read as quite claustrophobic.
Side note re: a lack of control — we shot this in NYC at the tail end of Hurricane Sandy. It was a really relaxed and fun shoot, and our whole team was excited to be back up and running after being a bit helpless in our respective corners of the city!
