Oyster Playlist: Levins' Favourite RiFF RAFF Videos

Get your RiFF RAFF education before seeing him live at the Sydney Opera House next Friday night.

It's just over a week until Riff Raff plays his first show in Sydney (at the Opera House of all places) for Goodgod's Vivid party on Friday night. You don't know who RiFF RAFF is? He's only the most colourful rapper on the internet, an insanely intriguing character who may or may not take himself seriously. His music is fun and a little bit odd — but only half as fun as his wild personality (which, depending on what video you're watching, ranges from pretty damn odd to odder than Oddworld: Abe's Oddysee).

There's a few hundred videos featuring RiFF RAFF, some are straight up music clips, others are interviews with the Houston-via-LA rapper and the rest fall into the 'weird and fantastic' section, occupied by YouTube's cream of the crop.

For the true RiFF RAFF video experience make sure you follow him on Vine, where he'll spam you up to ten times a day with bizarre videos that show off his strange life and stranger mind. Here are a few of my favourite RiFF RAFF videos on YouTube. Use this as a beginners guide to help you embark on your own RiFF RAFF YouTube pilgrimage. Godspeed.

'Time'
This is the first RiFF RAFF video I watched that made me realise his true awesomeness. Before this I'd only seen fairly straightforward clips featuring him rapping at the camera looking like a weirdo. I was kind of into it but I couldn't work out if he was aware of the funny side of his videos and persona. On 'Time', though, his sense of humour is obvious. I watched this video five times in a row after first watching it — the first time because it was funny, the second time because it was really funny, the third time to show my girlfriend who was intrigued at what I was laughing at so hard, the fourth and fifth because I loved the song so much. More rappers should have girls stack Pringles on them in their videos.

'Larry Bird'
See above — "fairly straightforward clips featuring him rapping at the camera looking like a weirdo." This is a boring clip but the song is probably my favourite of RiFF RAFF's straight-up rap songs. There are some great lines on here, and I love how short and punchy the track is.

Oh, sorry, this isn't funny enough for you? Let's move on!

'RiFF RAFF vs Your Dad'
This popped up on RiFF RAFF's YouTube channel last month and the less I say about it the better. Is this a real informercial? His entrance (in his Marc Jacobs goggles) is spectacular, as is every single one of his lines.

'Forbes List — Chicago 2012'
This is a great look at RiFF RAFF's classy alter ego, Jody Highroller. Try to keep a straight face as he moans about his hotel to a writer from Forbes magazine. Then try not to throw pillows and chocolate bars around your house proclaiming them to be 'poppycock'.

'Art Ballin''
Earlier this year RiFF RAFF went to an art gallery in Miami to review the art on display, and the people in the gallery as well.

'Strictly 4 My Jeeps'
RiFF RAFF makes an amazing cameo in Action Bronson's new clip as someone who loses a chain and some shrimp money to the bearded Bronson in a hoop bet. Just one of a dozen ridiculous things going on this video!

RiFF RAFF plays the Sydney Opera House as part of Goodgod Danceteria's for Vivid Live on Friday 31 May. Tickets on sale now!
