Paris Fashion Week Review: Miu Miu

The perfect way to end Fashion Month.

Miu Miu was our last show for Paris Fashion Week and the season could not have ended on a better note. Despite the Les Misérables weather outside, we all bustled happily into the Palais d'Iena where a runway and bench seats had been constructed out of dark wood. It was like the set of a Hitchcock film and the clothes were 90s Film Noir (if there is such a thing) — long pencil skirts with slits up the back, bras tops, fur stoles, leather gloves ruched and worn with bangles, and satin stilettos that were so feminine and so very erotic. To top it all off the models all had Bettie Page fringes.

Half or us were seated in a theatrette just off the main room, where the runway was projected onto a screen. Live footage of the models walking was spliced with images of grand spiral staircases and marble columns, and the girls kept disappearing from the screen as if trying to escape someone who might be following them. That is, until they strode through the screen into our room and stormed past, furs flying. Karen Elson and Jess Stam closed the show and when they crossed one another they caught eye contact and smirked, just a little. I think they were acknowledging what has been Miuccia’s main message this season — damn, it’s good to be a woman.
