Prada's Spring 2012 Shoes and Accessories
Hotrod stilettos with brake light spurs - yes, please.
Prada's Spring 2012 show was a homage to '50s Americana and old school Hollywood glamour. Much of the collection looked as though it was stolen from the set of Mad Men - there were headscarves, bandeau tops, varsity jackets, accordion pleats and leather appliqued skirts. Chevy car details and flame motifs were worked into playful prints. The car theme was revved up in Prada's recently released campaign - the shots see Meghan Collison et al on a road-trip pit stop at a vintage gas station. But it was Prada's accessories that really set our hearts aflutter.
Hotrod stilettos came complete with brake light spurs; colourful clutches featured fender clasps. Even Cathy Horyn, who didn't think much of Miuccia's last season it-shoe (the ubiquitous glitter pump), was taken by the quirky details. She suggested wearing the "purely silly" heels on your next Match.com date and praised the collection for its "machismo" against a sea of tired '20s frocks.
