Print, Pixels and Pop Giveaway!

Animation at the Opera House.

They say a picture is worth a thousand words. Obviously, the organisers of Graphic have taken the age-old mantra to heart more than most, because they've organised a weekend devoted entirely to silent comics - graphic animation that tells stories through nothing more than the power of the paintbrush.

Taking place from 20th to 21st August in the illustrious surrounds of the Sydney Opera House, Graphic is a celebration of animation, storytelling and music. Featuring a host of performances, screenings, talks and workshops by seminal artists like Robert Crumb and Reg Mombassa, it promises to be a pretty sweet weekend for those budding Marvel artists among you (or just those that used to pool six months worth of pocket money to buy the latest Spiderman).

What are we most excited about? Silent Comics shuns the humble speech bubble, screening wordless comics to original live scores by Oyster favourites Gotye and Seekae, among many others. What's more, Gotye will perform an exclusive preview of his upcoming album Making Mirrors, heightened through a visual display by a collection of Australia's finest animators.

For all those animation enthusiasts among you, we have two double passes for Graphic 2011 to give away! If you can make it to Sydney on Sunday 20th and 21st August, email us at giveaways@oystermag.com and tell us your comic book alter ego, including your name, address and telephone number. Entries close Thursday 11 August.
