Romance Was Born x Samuel Hodge AW13 Lookbook

Fashion fairytale.

Samuel Hodge, who shot July Beauty Daily last year and 'Hated and Proud' for our 100th issue, has done an amazing job on Romance Was Born's latest lookbook. Taking an antique store and what we assume to be a magical forest as its setting, the collection's inspirations are brought to life in the whimsical images.

There's a very regal feel to AW13 with ruffled yokes and sweetheart collars which take cues from the flamboyant Fauntleroy suit made popular by Frances Hodgson Burnett's 1885 children's book Little Lord Fauntleroy. The three-tiered, costume-cool corset gown (already worn by Nicki Minaj) is truly fit for a queen.

After curating the Johnston Collection, designers Anna Plunkett and Luke Sales were inspired by pieces from the museum and have worked Chinaware florals into the collection, as well as a print inspired by Saffordshire porcelain figurines.

Sydney-based artist Phil James created the collection's hero print — a modern take on Thomas Gainsborough's 'The Blue Boy' painting — which appears on a signature, long-sleeve dress.
