This morning, Qantas launched the registration for their 2011/2012 Spirit of Youth Awards, whose previous recipients include Romance Was Born, Dion Lee, Antipodium, Oh Mercy, My Disco and many others. As part of a new initiative, SOYA will now be year-long, hence the 365 bit, and will expand to eleven different fields so along with fashion, visual design and communications, film and video, photography, craft and object design, music, and visual arts, there's new categories like interactive content and gaming, architecture and interior design, written word, and animation. If you're under 30, an Australian, and dabble in any of the aforementioned, you should enter because there's $5000 cash on offer, a 12-month mentorship with a leading person from your field (e.g. this year's fashion mentor is Zimmermann) plus you'll get to go all the relevant industry events to get a foot in the door, a finger in the pie, or whatever other analogy you'd like to employ.
