Spring 2012 Campaigns Pt 1
Our favourites so far.
The Spring 2012 campaigns are being gradually released from the major fashion houses, and they're always an aesthetic delight, so we decided to compile a visual odyssey of our favourites so far. Above is Chanel's campaign, which has just been released. Karl Lagerfeld told WWD a few months ago that Chanel's campaign would be "all about athletics and the sea... It's a very modern sportif and in black-and-white." As he suggested, the resultant imagery, which has been shot at Hotel du Cap-Eden-Roc on the French Riviera, stars Pirelli 2012 girls Saskia de Brauw and Joan Smalls doing their best gymnast impressions. Carine Roitfeld is brought back in as stylist for a second Chanel season in a row, and classic Chanel suiting is offset by wristbands and a sock and sandal combo.
The Gucci campaign, which has just been released, stars an eyebrow-less Abbey Lee Kershaw and body-less pair of legs shot by Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott.
Givenchy is all black at the beach in its summer goth campaign shot by Mert and Marcus. Gisele Bundchen and Mariacarla Boscono are pictured alongside male models Chris Moore and Simone Nobili but it's not a typical seaside scene with black surfboards, a stormy sky, studded leather, sequins and suits. Trust Riccardo Tisci to make even lanyards look cool. And the men's floral suits are clearly amazing.
Valentino's campaign is shot in Mexico against a backdrop of dappled light and peeling paint. Lensed by Deborah Turbeville, and featuring Zuzanna Bijoch, Maud Welzen, Bette Franke and Fei Fei Sun, there's a certain sense of romanticism and femininity with braided hair and pretty dresses.
Shot by Jeurgen Teller in Rome, Kasia Struss stars in Moschino's Spring 2012 campaign wearing a Matador-inspired jacket. The second Moschino season shot by Teller, he brings his signature overexposed style to the Italian label.
Louis Vuitton's campaign is pastel perfection featuring Daria Strokous and Kati Nescher who wear sorbet skirt suits in a sundae shop. Shot by Steven Meisel, it's something sweet to sink your teeth into.
Gisele Bundchen and Ryan Barrett are shot by Mert and Marcus in the Southern Californian desert for Versace's Spring 2012 advertising. It's Versace through-and-through, from the studded bra-come-top and lucite platforms, to the crazy printed shirts and trousers.
Enlisting Michael Pitt as the new face for menswear and styling him in an ode to the 1950's, the retro vibe carries over to their womenswear campaign which is shot by Steven Meisel. Natasha Poly, Meghan Collison, Elise Crombez and Ymre Stiekema and Katryn Kruger hang out at a gas station wearing rockabilly-inspired full skirts, headscarfs, flame heels and hot rod prints.
