Spring 2013 Trend Report with Alex Wall from Bleeding Knees Club

"If I saw a girl wearing this, I would think that either she is here on holiday from Dubai, is very sun-safe, or a burn victim."

Bleeding Knees Club frontman Alex Wall probably does not consider himself a fashion journalist, which is exactly why we asked him to write about the key trends from the SS13 international show season. It's good timing, too, since he recently launched his own clothing label, 100 Percent Zero. This week, Bleeding Knees Club announced a nationwide November tour (tickets on sale now) to launch their new single 'Let It Go' — but don't expect to see him on stage in a cape or translucent top.

TREND: RAVE ON

First thoughts:
To me it looks like the perfect kind of outfit for the everyday farmers wife who also enjoys double dropping MDMA caps and going to those crazy weird raves where the DJs play nothing but Skrillex.

It also could be a cool outfit for the women who are contestants on that Farmer Wants A Wife show. It could show those desperate farmer men that they are down with farm life but still have a fashionable modern edge which could potentially give them an advantage over the other contestants.

What would you think of a girl if you saw her wearing this trend on the street?
I would think that she's probably a hard working farming girl who is just in town for Future Music festival on the weekend.

If this trend was a song, what would it be?

TREND: VEILS

First thoughts:
So I'm guessing this look was inspired by the second Sex And The City movie, which finds the four girls on a luxurious get away in Abu Dhabi. When I re-watched this movie I noticed that this "Muslim" look was being worn by fashion-forward girls throughout the whole film making it obvious that designers around the world have been using this film as their muse and inspiration. Or, potentially, maybe the fashion world has run out of girls with good-looking faces and this was a way to make use of what they could find.

What would you think of a girl if you saw her wearing this trend on the street?
If I saw a girl wearing this, I would think that either she is here on holiday from Dubai, is very sun-safe, or a burn victim.

If this trend was a song, what would it be?

TREND: CAPES

First thoughts:
My first thoughts are that this is the perfect outfit to wear to the opening night of Breaking Dawn Part 2

This trend doesn't surprise me really, as it seems like every girl's world revolves around vampires, Edward Cullen or True Blood at the moment. And I'm cool with that, because I myself also think vampires are really rad and I would LOVE to wear a cape around town like a vampire if it was socially acceptable. BUT, I do think this is a risky look to tackle, as you can see the girl in the all-leather cape looks more like a black female version of Keanu Reeves in The Matrix. The other girl with the colourful patterned cape looks like she has had her arms amputated.

What would you think of a girl if you saw her wearing this trend on the street?
I guess it also kinda looks like they are slutty magicians, so I would be thinking, "Oh cool, look! It's a slutty magician!"

If this trend was a song, what would it be?
Just 'cause superman wore a cape :)

TREND: FUTURISTIC

First thoughts:
This is cool. To me it looks like a real nice tribute to the recent passing of the first man on the moon, Neil Armstrong. I think he really would have appreciated it, and I wouldn't be surprised if NASA steals some of these designs for their own space suits.

On another note, the purple dress kind of looks like a futuristic alien's vagina.

What would you think of a girl if you saw her wearing this trend on the street?
I'd give her that Star Trek hand gesture.

If this trend was a song, what would it be?

TREND: NIPPLES

First thoughts:
At first I'm like, "COOL, BOOBS!" and then I'm like, "Thank god models are wearing these tops and not some fat slob or a 65-year-old mum who is still trying to look like her 18-year-old daughter.

What would you think of a girl if you saw her wearing this trend on the street?
I would probably think that she was some kind of trendy prostitute or a stripper. Then I would probably go up to her and ask her if she could make an appearance at my friend's 21st birthday party. THEN I would give her a nipple cripple and run away like a little boy.

If this trend was a song, what would it be?
