'Stranger Things' Creators Feel Kind Of Bad About What Happened To Barb
Disclaimer: This article is pretty much one giant spoiler. Proceed with caution.
Poor Barb. Nancy totally blew her off to make out with one of the popular guys — even after Barb's insistence that he was only in it for one thing *wink wink* — and even her own mother didn't really seem to care when she went missing. Tragic.
She's also a pretty polarising character for the people of the internet, with some being like, "She had no business being on that show", and then some like, "Where's the justice for poor hapless Barb?". The Duffer Brothers acknowledged this in a recent interview when asked about her fate in the next season, and to be real with you, things aren't really comin' up Milhouse for Barb.
We saw her looking pretty dead in the Upside Down, and so it kind of makes sense that she probably won't be around for season 2. According to Matt Duffer tho, while the chance of her return is pretty non-existent, she "will not be forgotten."
"We'll make sure there's some justice for Barb", he assured. "People get very frustrated, understandably, that the town doesn't seem to be really dealing with Barb. That stuff is all happening. We're just not spending any screen time on it. It's not like her parents are like 'Oh Barb left. She died!' Season One actually takes place over the course of six or seven days — it's a really short period of time. So part of what we want to do with hypothetical Season 2 is to explore the repercussions of everything that happened."
Things are a bit more optimistic for Eleven's psycho papa, Dr Martin Brenner. It seems like he probably died in the last episode, but the boys have left the door open for this return, saying:
"I would say that if we were going to kill Brenner... as an audience member watching the show, if that was his death, that would be very unsatisfying to me — when the monster jumps on him and we cut away. He would deserve much more than that as an ending. So yes, there's a possibility of seeing him again."
Why do bad things happen to good people? :'( RIP, Barb.
