Superhero Amandla Stenberg Pens Graphic Novel For Badass Girls

She is life.

Real life hero Amandla Stenberg is bringing her smarts/social activism to the world of graphic novels, with the release of a sci-fi/fantasy series called Niobe: She Is Life. The series is described as "a coming of age tale of love, betrayal, and ultimate sacrifice" centred around Niobe Ayutami, who is an orphaned half elf, half-human teenager. Epic.

"I was drawn to give voice to Niobe and co-write her story because her journey is my journey. I connect to her mixed racial background and quest to discover her innate powers and strengths, to learn who she truly is," Amandla said. The rad 16-year-old enlisted Chicago artist Ashley A. Woods and author and publisher Sebastian A. Jones to create the comic.

In typical Amandla style, this isn't just a fun project but one loaded with social commentary and big issues that the young gun has taken upon herself to tackle. Of Niobe Amandla said, "She is on a path to a destiny that will test her faith and her will, something we can all relate to. But there's never been a character quite like her — one who shatters the traditional ideal of what a hero is. We need more badass girls." Preach.

We can't wait to read it. Also, a movie adaption of Niobe starring Amandla as soon as possible, pls.

Stranger Comics' Niobe: She Is Lifewill hit shelves on November 4.
