Susie Bubble MBFWA Interview

We spoke about Jenny Kee and restaurants that look shit but are actually good.

I've spent the whole week staring at Susie Bubble. I just can't believe how one person can be so cool. Even though she's famous on the internet and really good at fashion, she is also heaps nice. I caught up with her out the front of Jenny Kee earlier today and fanned out over her Christopher Kane brocade sandals.

Ingrid Kesa: What’s been your favourite part of the week so far?
Susie Bubble: There’s a been a few highlights. This time ‘round, my highlight's been going to all the showrooms rather than the actual shows, for designers like Lover, Dion Lee, Josh Goot. You know, touching and feeling the clothes. I really loved Ellery, and I loved the Jenny Kee presentation.

I haven’t been in yet.
It is absolutely incredible. It’s quite nice to get a historical perspective to Australian fashion because you never think there is one — for a lot of people there isn’t one. I just think she’s incredible. I also really liked Emma Mulholland’s presentation.

Oh, yeah, I saw you there last night.
Yeah; I think things have been probably better off-site.

Have you done anything on this trip that hasn’t been Fashion Week-related?
I’ve done a trip to Chinatown’s Silk Road restaurant which I’m obsessed with because we don’t have that kind of food, like North-Eastern Chinese food. Like lamb skewers and thick noodles — I’m obsessed. It’s got fake grapes hanging from the ceiling.

I’ve actually been there. It’s like with those kind of restaurants, the shittier it looks, the better it is.
Exactly!

What are you doing now? Are you running off to another show?
I’m going to We Are Handsome and I’ve got my talk with Portable later on in the afternoon. Then I’m going to catch my last batch of shows — Carl Kapp, Christopher Esber and round-up the week, and then I’m off to Melbourne tomorrow.
