Top 5: NYFW Moments

Wu-Tang, Cat sweaters, Lil Kim, Aussies on the runway & more.

As New York Fashion Week wraps up for another season, we recall our Top 5 moments. From Aussie models on the runway to a confusingly ladylike Lil Kim sitting front row to Bill Cunningham proving once more why he's the greatest, these are the things that defined our week.

Australia on the Runway

The Mulleavy sisters were inspired by the Australian outback for Rodarte's FW12 collection with an intricate dot print and earthy palette also referencing Aboriginal art. The beauty looks took a similar direction, with the show's make-up artist telling Into The Gloss, "there's this kind of rough, savage side to Australia - the outback, and then this very English, pale look of some girls there. Today, Kate and Laura wanted the girls to look like they'd been out in the sun." Faces were bronze and dusty, with pale matte lips and tousled, wind-swept hair.

It was also great to see a bunch of familiar Australian faces on the runway. Above, Abbey Lee Kershaw walks for Alexander Wang, Codie Young for Oscar de la Renta and Julia Nobis for Altuzzara.

The Opening Ceremony Cat Sweater

A product of Opening Ceremony's collaboration with Glamour magazine, a limited edition embroidered cat sweater was a street style favourite for fashionable feline fans. Some might even call it 'purr-fect' (sorry).

Weird Celebrity Appearances

We're used to seeing front row fixtures like Anna Wintour and the Olsen twins sitting pretty. But Lil Kim and Star Wars director George Lucas? Now that's a little more obscure. The controversial female rapper attended The Blonds show at NYFW, wearing a surprisingly normal clothing to skin ratio, while Lucas was seated next to Dakota Fanning at the Rodarte show. We wonder what they talked about.

Jeremy Scott's Hair and Beauty

Telling Oyster backstage before his show, "I really was just inspired by the internet and the computer itself" (and maybe even by stylist Ms Fitz) Jeremy Scott's make-up looks featured bindis galore including flashing, microchip-esque ones stuck smack bang in the middle of the forehead, bright blue lips and crimped hair with rainbow-coloured clip in extensions. See our video of the beauty looks backstage here.

Wu-Tang Clan Performing at Milk Studios' Party

Seeing Method Man, Ghostface Killah and Raekwon perform live at Milk Studios' 'Shotgun Vegas Wedding' party was the perfect way to kick-off NYFW where guests (including Jourdan Dunn and Pamela Love) sang along to all the Wu-Tang lyrics.

ALSO WORTHY OF NOTE:

Bill Cunningham Hit by Car, Keeps Shooting

The legendary 84-year-old street style photographer was hit by an SUV outside of Reed Krakoff. If you've seen the documentary Bill Cunningham New York, you'll understand how this happened as his photography practice involves him dodging like a maniac between traffic. Fellow street style photographer Mr. Newton witnessed it all and Tweeted, "The Bill Cunningham incident was not serious thankfully. He seemed a little embarrassed by the attention it caused more than anything!" Cunningham kept shooting after the accident.

Shit Fashion Girls Say During NYFW:

After delivering LOLs in the form of Shit Fashion Girls Say, the hilarious parody of hilarious parody Shit Girls Say, Patrick Pope (P'Trique) and Jenny Fancy (P'Trique's best friend) bring us a new edition, just for NYFW. Plus there's a cameo by fashion writer Derek Blasberg. Awesome. "Is this a little too Cee-Lo Green?"
