Watch: Miu Miu x Ava DuVernay
The short film just launched during NYFW.
Miu Miu is bringing back good old girl power with their 'Women's Tales' film series which aims to showcase the work of female directors and actors (along with some A+ fashions in the process). So far in the series we've seen Maya Sansa actually morph into a dress, and Aubrey Plaza star alongside Rinko Kinkuchi.
The latest installment, released during NYFW, sees director Ava DuVernay (the first African-American woman to win the Best Director Prize at the Sundance Film Festival) work her magic behind the lens. Her first fashion film, Ava was given complete creative control with this project and decided to cast five women — an ambitious move given the nine-minute time frame. Called The Door, the glam-as-hell short stars Gabrielle Union, Alfre Woodard, Emayatzy Corinealdi, Adepero Oduye and singer-songwriter Goapele.
"In the film, characters arrive at the door of a friend in need, bringing something of themselves," Ava explains. "Eventually, we witness our heroine ready to walk through the door on her own. The door in the film represents a pathway to who we are."
