Watch: Tavi Talks Taylor Swift, High School & Her New Bitchface
As well as her new book, celebrities and her college plans.
Entrepreneur and possibly most articulate teenager ever, Tavi Gevinson (who contributed to Oyster #99 with Petra Collins) recently appeared on American gossip show Access Hollywood. The segment centres on Tavi's new book Rookie: Yearbook One, while being starkly apparent that the hosts (Billy Bush and Kit Hoover, as if those are even real human names) do not have enough Internet/Gen Y capital to communicate with Tavi in ways that are not tragically cringe-inducing. Example: near the halfway point, Kit says "You must be the coolest girl in school." Tavi responds in a way that does not imply she thinks Kit is a dickhead, even though she must.
She maintains this ultra-dignified poise and unfathomable politeness throughout, deflecting inane questions with the grace of a veteran interviewee. When questioned about which celebrities she'd like to meet, Tavi wants to sigh emphatically and say 'Shut up, idiots' but she sweetly responds that she feels "silly talking about celebrities". As they continue to query with the sugary enthusiasm of a cheerleader who has dropped an ecstasy tablet, Tavi sticks to her well-mannered guns and divulges an admiration for Taylor Swift, her classmate's reactions to her success and her plans to attend college. She also tutors the pair on how to carry out the new version of Bitchface (a series of facial contortions that achieve the impression of giving zero fucks, if you're not familiar).
What we want to know is: how is one so humble and tactful after this much success by the age of 16? Our heads would be requiring entire personal suburbs by now.
