Watch: 'You Know What I Mean' by Cults
Watch Brian Oblivion's face get burnt off.
Cults have a new video out for 'You Know What I Mean'. They released the single from their self-titled debut full-length album in March last year, marking somewhat of a departure from their sugary-sweet sixties pop sound. So it sort of makes sense that the video for this noticeably bolder song would involve things like crazy circus stunts and horrific deforming burns.
Shot by director Isaiah Seret, the video is a dark love story between guitarist Brian Oblivion and singer Madeline Follin. Oblivion plays a carnival performer who engages in death-defying acrobatic feats, before meeting with disaster when Follin's creepy father sabotages his attempt at leaping through a ring of fire. Follin is left to tend to her freshly deformed lover as he lies in bed covered in bandages, the melancholy mood harmonised by the escalating tension in her vocals as she sings "I am afraid of the light / Yeah, you know what I mean."
