Welcome to the Dollhouse
Prada releases a terrifically trippy 'motionbook' for Fall 2011.
Prada has released a terrifically trippy 'motionbook' as part of its Fall 2011 campaign. Called Real Fantasies, the video project blends together look book and collage formats in an attempt to stay ahead of the times, by, strangely enough, looking to the past.
Carrying on from the aesthetic of the Spring Summer video released earlier this year (no, you did not hallucinate it), the editing embodies early-Internet days with its experimental cut and paste feel. From 1960's cars, modern architecture and a Mondrian-inspired dress, there are also references to the Mod movement. Directed by James Lima, we are lead into a fantastical doll house world where nothing is quite as it seems. Perspectives are warped in an M.C. Escher optical illusion kind of way, while the Surrealists would certainly be proud of the absolute absurdity of it all.
"The handmade effect of the imagery echoes the inherently haptic nature of the fashion it portrays," the label explains. We still don't really know what's going on but we know that we like it.
