People were legit crying today in Australian parliament as same-sex marriage is officially legalised.
The lower house passed the bill with almost all Liberal-National Coalition members joining Labor and the Greens to say yes. The only no votes were Coalition MPS Russell Broadbent, Keith Pitt, David Littleproud and independent MP Bob Katter.
Australia changed its marriage law in 2004 to say marriage is only legal between a man and woman, today the country becomes the 25th to say any two humans are allowed to marry regardless of sex.
Once the decision was made, the room broke into song. “I am, you are, we are Australian,” they all belted out.
Malcolm Turnbull told the house that “Australia has done it – every Australian had their say, and they said ‘it’s fair, get on with it’.” Too right.
