Girl, Interrupted is one of those classic movies that you can’t watch all the time, but when you do, you love it just as much as the first time you saw it. And clearly, we’re not the only ones that feel that way. Marc Jacobs has teamed up with Oyster fav Ava Nirui on a new, limited edition Girl, Interrupted capsule collection just in time to celebrate the film’s 20 year anniversary.
Featuring three key pieces — a hoodie, a pair of sweats and a killer tee — the collection features imagery from the film, as well as it’s most famous quote: “Have you ever confused a dream with life?” With proceeds going to LGBTQ+ suicide prevention charity, The Trevor Project, it also pays tribute to the film’s central theme.
For those of you who haven’t seen it (read: watch it now), the film is based on author Susanna Kaysen’s 1993 memoir and true story of her experience at a mental institution in the 60s. And doesn’t hurt that the mostly female cast is epic: Winona Ryder, Brittany Murphy, Cleo Duvall, Elizabeth Moss, Whoopi Goldberg and young, BLONDE Angelina Jolie. Plus, we can’t forget Jared Leto as Toby.
“This project is dear to me,” Nirui wrote on Instagram, “this movie changed the way I viewed mental health at a very young age, which was massively beneficial to me as I was in the process of growing up under the guidance of a close family member with clinical depression. It really helped me become more accepting of her and others impacted by mental illness. I’m happy to have done this project with such an important organization.”
To celebrate the launch, Marc Jacobs tapped photographer Tina Tyrell and model Adut Akech. Naturally, the shirts are already sold out, so move quick on the rest of the capsule — you won’t regret it. Oh, and definitely add Girl, Interrupted to your holiday queue… it’ll make you feel a little less alone navigating your crazy family.
In the meantime, BRB. Trying to figure out if we’re a Lisa or a Susannah and/or if we should cut micro bangs and some bleach.
