The World Health Organisation No Longer Classifies Being Transgender as Mental Illness

The World Health Organisation, which is part for the United Nations and focuses on international public health, has finally removed all trans-related categories from the fields under mental disorders in its International Classification of Diseases this week.
Now, these categories have been shifted to falling under other sexual health conditions, with WHO explaining that “the rationale being that while evidence is now clear that it is not a mental disorder, and indeed classifying it in this can cause enormous stigma for people who are transgender, there remain significant health care needs that can best be met if the condition is coded under the ICD.”
Not only does this validate trans identity, but it also lays a foundation for guiding medical professionals in whatever treatment a trans person may be seeking/needing. Really feeling this!
