Photo Diary: Backstage At XIMONLEE’s Womenswear Debut

Synthetic beings.

At PFW for SS19, Ximon Lee made his first official womenswear debut for his namesake label. While XIMONLEE collections are generally quite avant garde and genderless, Fashion Week calendars aren’t — and so this season marks Ximon’s entry on the women’s schedule. And how welcome he is.

The collection, so elegantly contemporary and so covered in beautiful fabrications is both wearable and investigative. “Inspired by artworks depicting scenes of nature, his patterns riff off classical motifs – nostalgic images of serene paradises,” the press release reads. “These copies of the natural world are confined in man-made forms; the spiritual turned still-life.”

As texture and touch are big things on Ximon’s brain, it’s no surprise that beautiful jacquards were scratched and scuffed. The colour palette, too, provided a toughness, unnatural greens, pinks and purples disrupting the uniform serenity.
