Dior Teamed Up With Stussy For Pre-Fall 2020 And It Slaps

Surfers paradise.

Last year Kim Jones took Dior to Tokyo for their first Pre-Fall Men’s show and earlier this year, the designer announced he’d be heading to Miami for Pre-Fall 2020. Just before the presentation in Miami, the brand posted a cryptic preview hinting that Jones had been up to something, and it turns out that something was a Stussy collab. Along with the debut of Dior Men’s Pre-Fall 2020 collection, Jones announced that he had teamed up with legendary 90s surf wear designer and artist Shawn Stussy.

“When Dior decided to show in Miami, I decided to work with someone I consider an artist, who has impacted generations since he signed his name on a surfboard 40 years ago,” the designer wrote.

In an interview with WWD about the collab, Jones also revealed that he “used to wear it head-to-toe all the time in my teens. It was something I was really, really, really obsessed by.”

“He’s an artist, that’s the thing,” he added. “If you can work that line like that, and it’s that memorable, it’s like an artist. That’s why I wanted to do it with him: he’s made an iconic image with his hand.”

Apparently, the adoration was mutual, which is why Shawn Stussy came out of retirement just for the collab.

“It has been really hard for me to keep this to myself for six months now,” the designer shared on Instagram, “but seems after traveling all day to Miami from Paris, the cat’s out the bag… I opened my phone to see that word is out… Kim has brought me out of retirement to work with him and his Dior family on Fall 2020.”

The collection, which saw Stussy revamping the iconic Dior logo with his signature Stussy style, also played on the label’s famous floral motif.

“I gotta say here now how good a vibe and how natural this project has felt for me before this thing breaks in a day or so,” Stussy concluded on Instagram. “No matter what goes down I want to thank the whole crew over there for taking me in and making me feel welcomed… now I am just going to enjoy the next couple days and watch it unfold.”

Good news: it seems fuck boys are out, surfer boys are in.

Is it Fall yet?
